Privacy Policy

Merrang! is a live music band based in Bournemouth, Dorset. For data protection purposes we are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at merrangband@gmail.com.

• Contact form. When you message us we collect your name, email address and whatever you write in your message.
• Song requests. If you suggest a song we store the song title and artist you enter. This isn't personal data. To stop the same person voting twice we save a random, anonymous identifier in your browser's local storage; it doesn't identify you and never leaves your device except as that random ID.
• Live chat. If you use the chat widget (provided by tawk.to), anything you type is processed by tawk.to on our behalf so we can reply.
• Technical data. Our hosting provider and embedded services may automatically log basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the site secure and working.

Some pages include content embedded from other services: YouTube videos, an Instagram feed and links to our social media. These services may set their own cookies and collect data about you as if you had visited them directly. We don't control that; please see their own privacy policies.

We use the information above to:

• respond to your enquiries and arrange bookings;
• run the song request feature on the site;
• keep the website secure and working properly.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the band and responding to you, and, where relevant, taking steps to enter into a contract at your request. We do not use your data for advertising, and we never sell it.

We don't use advertising or analytics cookies of our own. The local storage used for song voting is strictly functional. Third-party content we embed (YouTube, Instagram, the chat widget) may set its own cookies. You can manage or block cookies in your browser settings.

We only share data with the service providers that help us run the site, and only so they can provide their service to us:

• Vercel: website hosting;
• Supabase: storing song requests;
• tawk.to: the live chat widget;
• Google/YouTube and Meta/Instagram: embedded content;
• our email provider: receiving contact messages.

These providers process data on our behalf. We don't sell your personal data to anyone.

We keep contact messages only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up. Song requests are kept while the feature is running and removed when no longer needed. If you'd like us to delete something sooner, just ask.

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it.

To exercise any of these, email us at merrangband@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.

This site isn't aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will appear on this page with a new “last updated” date.
